America's First Fragrance
Created in 1772 by William Hunter, Number Six is the first fragrance of America. It was also worn by our founding father George Washington, who discovered it at our Apothecary shop in the 1780s.
A remarkable blend of aromatic & citrus notes, with Amber and Rosemary in the opening, and a complex, long-lasting sillage. Available in a strikingly modern take on this classic EDP—yet our truest to the original scent to date—Number Six is reimagined by using all-natural oils and 100% renewable energy in its formulation. The Sporting Scent of America
Formulated to have the scent of the bouquet given to the fastest horse and jockey in the winner's circle, Jockey Club has been a perennial favorite from the finest sporting and racing clubs in America to John F. Kennedy, who wore it as his favorite cologne a century later in the 1950s.
We originally created Marem in 1914 as a bespoke scent for trailblazing actress Alla Nazimova (née Marem Leventon), star of stage and screen, a daring film-maker, and a pioneer of female independence. Marem was just one of many iconic celebrities who have considered Caswell-Massey an essential everyday luxury, alongside other powerful female artists such as Joni Mitchell and Deborah Harry (a.k.a. 'Blondie').
A NEW YORK STATE OF MIND
Lexington & 48th
Ralph and Milton Taylor took over the business in the 1930s and operated Caswell-Massey for over 50 years, expanding globally from its iconic store at the Barclay Hotel in New York. They made the brand cruelty-free, introducing the first plant-based musks, and created many of our best twentieth-century scents, such as Tricorn, Woodgrain Sandalwood, and Greenbriar.
Caswell-Massey, with its origins in the Newport sailing and equestrian social circles, becomes an icon of preppie style in the 1980s. Greenbrair arrives in 1984 as an Oakmoss-focused update of the 1970's Russian Sage and Aura of Patchouli hit fougere fragrances; a new classic is born.
RETURNING TO OUR ROOTS
In 2018, we launched our two Living Floral partnerships with The New York Botanical Garden and Yellowstone National Park, as well as LX48—the first new fine fragrance launch from Caswell-Massey in nearly 50 years. These projects combine our centuries-old archives with the skill and knowledge of the finest perfumers and botanists in the world, to bring new and exciting collections to our customers.

We proudly approach our two-hundred and seventieth year with some of the finest fragrant bath and body products, and the most remarkable fragrances in the world. We do this in the service of our customers, from the first generation to the tenth and for all the many generations to come.
